Meet Kate Edgecock who is currently in week two of the Peter Swords King Television & Film Makeup & Hair Course at The Bath Academy of Media Makeup. We took some time out from the course to get to know her better. Here is what Kate told us about herself.
I chose BAMM for many reasons:
- The incredible tutors who are active in the industry.
- Testimonials from previous students on the website.
- Having an Oscar-winning makeup artist as creative director!
- The aftercare you provide, it makes me feel I have continued support once I leave the academy.
- Access to the BAMM agency after the course.
The course encapsulates everything you need to learn in order to get going straight away as a trainee make up artist on completion. This is incredibly important as a mature student, as I need to start earning a living again!
I completed a BTEC National Certificate in Beauty Therapy in 2008, which did include learning basic makeup application. I worked in a top Taunton salon for 4 and a half years, where I did do some wedding makeups. I set up my own beauty therapy business in 2012 alongside working full time as a Registered Veterinary Nurse. I would see clients after work in the evenings and at weekends.
I am inspired by my love of movies, which is why I decided to pursue this career. I often find myself watching in awe at the character creations I see on the big screen. I wanted to see if I could turn something I am passionate about into a career. Life really is too short not to follow your dreams.
I am especially looking forward to learning about period hair and makeup, SFX and wig making. Creating characters is of particular interest to me; helping an actor become the person they are portraying must feel so satisfying. I like the idea of working in movies in the future, but I need to find out where my strengths lie first.
