We recently caught up with Jana Lewis who has kindly taken time out from her busy schedule on the TV drama Casualty to share some of her experiences since graduating in December of 2016. With hard work, a good work ethic and a little determination Jana has been hugely successful in a very short space of time and we though you would enjoy her story.
When did you decide you wanted to be a makeup artist?
I always liked the idea of it, but as soon as I come across BAMM, when I was looking for courses I knew it was for me. This was confirmed after I attended 2 taster sessions, I knew I had to do it.
Did you have a particular field you wanted to specialise in?
Not really, I was open to them all.
Why Did you choose BAMM?
BAMM stood out for me with all it had to offer, but also for personal reasons, due to the course length and location, as it was close to home. It was perfect for me
Did your ideas of what you wanted to do following your training change during the course?
No. I knew this was what I wanted to do.
What was your favourite bit?
Creatively my favourite bit was the fashion and black skins module, but what I enjoyed the most was the friendly family like environment I got to do it all in.
What was your first job following your training?
My first job was a little promo video.
How long after leaving BAMM did it take you to get a foot in the door
I completed the course in December 2016 and I got a job with the BBC’s Casualty in April 2017, however the position did not start till January 2018.
How did you get your in?
I applied for a job with BBC as a junior make up artist, got an interview and I got a job offer.
What have you worked on since?
My contract as a Junior has just finished, but I have been offered more work as an assistant, starting next week.
What have been your highlights?
Holding the BAFTA award, that the show won this year was pretty awesome.
Anything you would change?
Yes, wish I had taken the course sooner.
What advise would you give to your younger self?
Believe in yourself.
Whats the dream?
To Keep learning and working.
