This intensive three -week SFX makeup course will arm you with the required skills, whether you’re an experienced makeup artist wanting to update, or enhance your knowledge in Special Effects Makeup. If you have no previous experience and want to develop and learn to create realistically simulated injuries, this is the course you have been waiting to discover. Darren and the team will guide and help you to maximise your creative talent so even a complete beginner will leave having accomplished many specialist techniques!

Special Effects Makeup Course Kit

This Course Covers

  • Casualty effects - Black eyes, broken nose, split lip, scabs, spots and blisters.
  • Stitching a wound.
  • Working with 3rd degree and sculpt gels.
  • Burns makeup – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree scaring.
  • Making own bald caps and application
  • Sculpting and moulding assorted wounds and scars.
  • Working with Pro Bondo, from design to application.
  • Sculpting, painting and application of various wounds in direct applied silicone.
  • Producing a scar tray mould and casting wounds in gelatine including painting and application.
  • Creation of a realistic severed finger using a silicone mould from a life cast.
  • Face casting and sculpting facial injuries & understanding the floating process to produce a prosthetic piece for makeup application.

Creature and Character Creations Course

This Creature & Character Creations makeup course has been developed by the renowned Darren Longthorne whose skills and expertise have taken him across all genres of the entertainment industry.

This intensive course lasts for a total of 15 days Monday – Friday 09.30 – 4.30pm, with an hour for lunch and covers all aspects of creating Creatures and characters for the TV and Film Industry.

During this course students will get to grips with the processes involved in casting, mould making and sculpting, giving you the skills to create a creature and or character of your choice. Prosthetics are a fascinating part of our industry with plenty of work to be had, as Film and TV producers look to make evermore spectacular and realistic productions, and is even becoming popular within the Fashion and Theatre Industries. With the techniques learnt and practised students will also be able to adapt their skills into casting and creating other items that could be relevant to prop making used on set or stage. The industry is always looking for talented sculptors to join a working team, and this course will enable you to explore if this could be your future career.

Entry Requirements
Candidates must have completed the BAMM 2 week Special Effects and Prosthetics course or equivalent and have portfolio evidence of achievements
