SFX & Prosthetic Summer Camp
The five-day summer camp is designed to bring practising Makeup artists and SFX enthusiasts up to date on the latest techniques and application methods being used in the industry to date.
Participants will learn how to make skin traumas and swellings through sculpting and using silicone A & B compounds to create moulds using their design ready to fill with Probondo. Application, painting and working with Probondo’s will be demonstrated, and participants will learn how to create their own prosthetic Probondo pieces.
A variety of specialist materials and products including using various silicones with varying degrees of setting times (specifically manufactured for prosthetic application and mould making) will be demonstrated and explained including colouring your silicone and the use of flocking. Participants will learn to cast facial features or limbs in dental plaster, and the use of various sculpting techniques are demonstrated to create flat moulds from your own individually sculpted prosthetics. The essential “pulling edge” is explained including how to melt edges away and application and painting techniques will be demonstrated. Participants will create and apply their very own pieces ready for their portfolio.
This five-day summer camp is taught by Kirstie Stanway who has been (and still is) the series designer for over seven years for BBC’s long-running and award-winning medical drama Casualty. During this course Kirstie will demonstrate ways to create incredible visual SFX using quick methods all makeup artists will be able to create during the design process ready for filming in just a few short days.
