My dream of becoming a Makeup Artist started with my obsession of musicals and arts. I would go and see all the West End shows in London as a child and fantasised about being a part of them.
When I was 13 I watched a show on the TV about the making of Harry Potter and that’s when my dreams began to take shape. I watched these amazing Special FX Makeup Artists create these incredible prosthetics and knew then, for certain, that I wanted to be a Hair and Makeup Artist.
At the time, the information I gleaned from researching the Film & TV Makeup Artist profession all seemed very vague so I decided to study Hair, Beauty & Makeup to learn the basics. At the start of last year, I had nearly completed my Hair, Beauty & Makeup Course at college in Brighton and I became totally lost on my path. I couldn’t get into university with my qualifications and, even if I did, I felt I would end up repeating what I had already learnt.
Just when I was losing all hope, my college Beauty Course tutor told me about BAMM. My face lit up! I told my mum about it and we contacted the BAMM Academy Principal, Melanie. Then, the very next day, we travelled to the beautiful City of Bath to see the school for ourselves.
It was amazing and the course content was exactly what I had dreamt of learning! I enrolled on the September 2016 Peter King TV & Film Makeup Course and graduated in December. It was an unforgettable experience and I have learnt so much from the fantastic tutors.
I am now a trainee wig technician at Glyndebourne Opera House working on the making and dressing of all the wigs on 6 major operas over the summer.
All I can say is, a year on from enrolling, I definitely didn’t think I would be working on such amazing productions in the most beautiful surroundings. It’s because of BAMM that I am living the dream job!
